A MUSICAL JOURNEY
Alex (James) Anderson, born in September 2003 in Tameside, Manchester, has had a strong love for performing since childhood. He has always envisioned sharing the stage with iconic figures like Beyoncé, Celine Dion, or Alicia Keys, a dream that continues to drive his passion for entertainment.
In his teenage years, Alex pursued his passion by studying Music GCSE in high school. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted his studies, but he successfully completed them in 2020 at Access Creative College, alongside a vocational L2 Music Performance course.
Following in the footsteps of vocal artists like Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, and Rita Ora, Alex hopes to follow in the footsteps of an elite group of graduates from ATM.
FIRST MUSICAL MEMORY
Around 2009, Alex (James) Anderson's earliest inclination towards becoming a singer was triggered when his newborn nephew started crying. By the time his mother (Alex's sister) arrived to soothe the baby, Alex was already there, singing Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb'.
He considers this moment as the start of his musical journey, believing that without it, his path to a successful music career would be much slower. Alex keeps a strong connection with his nephew, who is now in secondary school.
Even today, Alex vividly recalls this memory and uses it as a personal reminder whenever doubts about his music arise.
AN EDUCATIONAL START
During his early childhood, Alex attended a nearby primary school, actively engaging in the Young Voices© choir on several occasions. Additionally, he joined his school's 'Got Talent' show, highlighting his talents alongside friends.
Transitioning to high school, Alex faced challenges related to bullying, targeting both his weight and sexuality. These experiences had an impact on his mental health. However, Alex reflects that these tough situations provided him with valuable life lessons about society.
MASTERING A CRAFT
Alex has faced many challenges in honing his musical skills, including being diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome at the age of 11. Dealing with both vocal and motor tics, these conditions significantly affect his day-to-day activities.
A prominent tic Alex grapples with involves screaming at a loud and high-pitched rate, taking an obvious toll on his voice. Despite the challenges, he acknowledges, "Yes, having Tourette's is challenging, both mentally and physically. But if I didn't have it, I don't think I'd ever have become the person I am today. I am strong, and I am thankful for these experiences that have guided me."
COLLABORATORS IN MUSIC
Alex has teamed up with various vocal artists, including close friend and peer Milli McDonagh, Maksym Komisarchuk (The Voice Kids 5 - Ukraine), and Alexis Wade (22 reasons). He envisions collaborating with many more artists in the future, with specific plans to write his own material.
Through his experiences working with other musicians, Alex gained insights into the importance of contributing to a team or group dynamic while also expressing oneself and staying true to one's brand. Though challenging, he learned the essential skills to navigate these dynamics and, most importantly, to enjoy the creative process with fellow artists.
